HACCP
What is HACCP?
The HACCP-principles are applied to identify, analyse and to manage company specific risks to the safety of food and feed. First, all processes within a company are mapped out. Then, for each step in the process, possible risks are identified. These risks are analysed and, when necessary, measures will be taken to safeguard the risk.
HACCP for your company
All European companies in that produce, process, transport and/or store food or feed are required to implement and maintain a HACCP system. This has been a requirement for the food industry for quite a while, but was implemented for the feed industry on the first of January, 2006. On that date, the Feed Hygiene Regulations (EG) no. 183/2005 came into effect.
HACCP is also applied in the agro-food sector outside food and feed companies. For example, HACCP is now applied by companies that burn, compost or ferment animal by-products.
